LET'S GO CAMPING, YA'LL

When I was younger, in the mid-70s to mid-80s, my parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents all owned campers and we went camping quite often…at least once a month. We would camp at different campgrounds each time but to us kids, it didn't matter where we were, it was always so much fun and the campgrounds had so many cool things to do.

Campgrounds had some really cool stuff. Arcades, swimming pool or a lake, teen dances, miniature golf, ice cream, sleeping under the stars, and all the fun activities that go with camping as a kid. My cousins had dirt bikes and other fun toys. We’d be on the go from sun up to sun down). We’d touch base now and then with the parents, get a bite to eat but head right back out again. We would always say to each other, “We’re going to do this FOREVER!”

Then we became adults. Do you know how much work is involved in camping when you’re an adult?

You have to pack up the truck and camper with toys, towels, food, bedding, blankets, swimsuits, clothes, food, snacks, food. Oops! Don’t forget to stop and get ice! Then when you get to the campgrounds you have to unpack everything, make dinner, do the dishes, build a fire, and just when you think you can sit down to relax…“Mom! Where are my flip flops?” “Don’t we have Ice Pops?” “Dad, can I have $5 for the arcade?” Are you kidding me? This isn’t fun anymore. I got home on Sunday night more exhausted after a “relaxing” weekend of camping than when I left home on Friday.

Until…I discovered a FAB-U-LOUS new way of 'camping'. I took my first ocean cruise!

Well, let me tell you! I didn't have to make the bed, the kids still had a pool, an arcade, teen dances, miniature golf, and ice cream! Plenty of ice cream!

Instead of sleeping under the stars, we would find deck chairs and watch a movie under the stars – as a family.

Instead of dirt bikes, the kids experienced the race track that is only on Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss

And let me tell you about my “camper”! It has a spa, a dining room, a buffet, a fitness center, a theater, shops, restaurants. I don’t have to cook, I don’t have to do dishes, I don’t have to clean up. Is this heaven?

The next time someone says, “Let’s go camping this weekend!” Aren’t you going to smile a little and say, “I’m already going camping. I booked a cruise with Collins and we’re going camping the right way!”
